Ceremonial event on the occasion of the beginning of studies in Freiberg 228 years ago (14.6.1791)

In only nine months - from June 14, 1791 - Alexander von Humboldt was educated and encouraged in Freiberg. At that time, Freiberg was THE international mecca of geo- and mining sciences. This was also due to the excellent infrastructure for the time. The TU Bergakademie Freiberg is committed to this history to this day. Thirty years after the German reunification, the modern university offers a clearly above-average infrastructure for outstanding research and teaching.

On the one hand, the ceremony will include lectures by local scientists on Humboldt's work and heritage at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, on the other hand representatives of embassies from countries visited by Humboldt to science networks in Humboldt-associated topics, their development and consolidation as well as Humboldt's after-effects in the culture of their countries to have an influence on Germany's relations today.
