Lots of space for learning together - that is the wish of many students. The university fulfils this wish with modern buildings on campus. The new university library with lecture hall centre will in future offer up to 1,500 students various opportunities for learning and studying.
In the modern and sustainable library building, students will in future find a total of 480 workplaces for modern forms of learning and working, from fixed, mobile and lounge-like meeting points to individual and group work rooms, as well as a parent-child room and a workplace for the visually impaired, spread over three floors. WLAN on all three floors and workstations with LAN cables as well as charging cabinets for laptops also enable mobile and digital work with large amounts of data directly on site. And the library service for students is also being expanded. In future, students will not only be able to check out their media themselves at special machines, but also return them automatically.
The new university library is complemented by a lecture hall centre. The building is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and offers two large lecture halls and seminar rooms for up to 860 students, providing space for the university's modern teaching and learning methods. High-performance projections, cameras and studio technology also enable the development of new formats of higher education with technical support for the hearing and visually impaired.
The new building replaces the library building at Agricolastrasse 10, which was constructed between 1977 and 1980. In addition, the new lecture hall centre with its various facilities for students and university members is being built in this context. The building complex is to be usable from the winter semester 2021/22 and is being financed by the state-owned company Sächsisches Immobilien- und Baumanagement (SIB) with approx. 40 million euros.
