Bei der Nacht der Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft (NdWW) bieten Universität und Stadt ein buntes Programm für die ganze Familie. Am Standort der Wissenschaft auf dem Unicampus Nord rund um die Agricola- und Lampadiusstraße stellt die TU Bergakademie Freiberg in diesem Jahr Studieninteressierte in den Mittelpunkt und bietet 2026 noch mehr Angebote für Jugendliche.

TUBAF intensifies cooperation with Chilean universities
More double doctorates, new exchange programmes for master's and diploma students, better German language preparation: TUBAF's cooperation with Chilean universities is to be expanded so that even more doctoral candidates and students can benefit from it. Fourteen young people from Chile are currently studying and completing their doctorates at Freiberg University as part of the existing cooperation programmes with the Universidad de Santiago de Chile, the Universidad Católica del Norte, the Universidad de Atacama, the Universidad de Concepción and the Universidad de Magallanes.

When a robot scans a dam wall - Scientific Diving Centre and Institute of Computer Science develop diving robots for critical infrastructure
The Scientific Diving Centre (SDC) at TU Bergakademie Freiberg not only trains the next generation of academic divers. Together with the Institute of Computer Science, the SDC has now developed a tool that will play a crucial role in critical infrastructure in the future. It is a diving robot that analyses the safety of dams in places where technology has so far found it difficult to reach: under water. At the current IFAT trade fair in Munich, the researchers are now presenting their "SUBmarIne" project for inspecting structures under water. The team trialled the submersible robot at dams - where it will be used in the future.

Insulation materials, delivery robots, battery recycling & dental diagnostics: TUBAF Innovation Fund supports 5 projects
Further developing research results with a clear transfer perspective and creating the basis for concrete commercialisation steps: Five new projects are taking the next step towards application with the TUBAF Innovation Fund (TIF). Researchers will be supported in this endeavour for up to twelve months with a maximum of 90,000 euros each.

New TUBAF branch - start of construction for Torgau glass competence centre
The start of a new competence centre for climate-friendly glass production: On Thursday (16 April), the Rector of TU Bergakademie Freiberg, Professor Jutta Emes, together with Saxony's Minister President Michael Kretschmer and North Saxony's District Administrator Kai Emanuel, performed the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the Torgau Glass Competence Centre. The 5,300 square metre hall complex will become a centre of excellence for glass production thanks to a pilot furnace from the TU Bergakademie Freiberg - in close cooperation with craftsmen, industry and regional partners. Students will be able to carry out their own tests on the pilot plant and benefit from the cooperation while they are still studying.

Claudia Kallmeier has been the new Head of University Communications (D5) since 1 April 2026. She succeeds Dr Sabine Schellbach. The graduate journalist brings expertise in the diverse tasks of university communication from the press office at TU Dresden, among others. However, she has also already gained experience at TUBAF.

A great success for the spin-off from TU Bergakademie Freiberg: CYNiO GmbH, based in Bitterfeld-Wolfen, has been awarded the Saxony-Anhalt 2026 Business Prize in the "Start-up" category. In doing so, the state is honouring a young company that combines scientific excellence with entrepreneurial courage.

Seit Dienstag, 31.03.2026, bietet die terra mineralia, die Mineraliensammlung der TU Bergakademie Freiberg, ein neues Marketing-Ticket: Bei einem in der terra mineralia erworbenen Kombiticket für die terra mineralia und das Krügerhaus fällt in den geowissenschaftlichen Sammlungen der ermäßigte Eintrittspreis an. Nach der Ausstellung des Ticket haben Besucherinnen und Besucher zwei ganze Werktage Zeit, um alle Sammlungen zu besichtigen.

100 Jahre Bauhaus Dessau mit Leih-Objekten der TUBAF
Die glatten, sauberen Oberflächen von Stahlrohren und Glasfassaden stehen für das Neue Bauen der Epoche des Bauhaus in den 1920er Jahren. Eine Sonderausstellung anlässlich des 100-jährigen Bestehens des Bauhausgebäudes in Dessau erzählt die Geschichte der neuen Materialien – unter anderem mit Exponaten aus den Sammlungen der TU Bergakademie Freiberg.

TUBAF expertise in demand in Australia
Last year, an Australian delegation led by the German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce and Germany Trade & Invest travelled to Germany to find out more about the coal phase-out; the return visit has now taken place in the Australian state of New South Wales. There, in the Hunter Valley coal region near Newcastle, open-cast mines will be closed in the coming years, the spatial and economic-social dimensions of which are comparable to the large German open-cast lignite mines that are also due to be closed.
