TUBAF launches Monopoly Special Edition

The Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBAF) is launching its own Monopoly game. In a limited special edition, players can discover the university in a completely new way - with typical buildings, traditions and characters from university life in Freiberg. Between textbooks and a YouTube channel: Questions for Professor Matthias Reich

Germany's only professor of deep drilling technology is just one role of the versatile expert on the liquid treasures of the subsurface: he runs the YouTube channel "Spaß mit Tiefbohrtechnik", is a guitarist in a happy metal band and has written a children's book. Professor Matthias Reich officially retired at the end of September, but will remain in Freiberg - and on YouTube anyway.  Read more...

November 2025 seine jährliche Mitgliederversammlung abgehalten – und dabei erneut gezeigt, welche wichtige Rolle der Verein für die Entwicklung der Universität spielt. TUBAF celebrates graduates, doctoral and post-doctoral graduates

553 graduates and 79 doctoral and post-doctoral graduates are saying goodbye to TU Bergakademie Freiberg this year. More than 200 of them will celebrate their academic degrees on 8 November in the Alte Mensa in Freiberg city centre. The most common degrees are in engineering, natural sciences and economics. With their knowledge, graduates and postgraduates are sought-after specialists for global challenges.  Read more...

Fermentation residues from biogas plants to become green chemicals

In the innovation alliance biogeniV, TU Bergakademie Freiberg is working with partners to research a new process for converting regionally available residual materials, such as fermentation residues from biogas plants, into green chemicals based on methanol. Two new research projects have been launched as part of the "WIR! - Innovation and Structural Change" programme with funding approval from the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space: the "Residue drying" project and the "Residue gasification" project. Exceptional commitment to the Alma Mater Fribergensis: Doris and Hans-Joachim Jagnow establish endowment fund

Alumnus of the Bergakademie Dr Hans-Joachim Jagnow and his wife would like to contribute to research funding, particularly for future energy supply, with a foundation. The engineer studied at Freiberg University from 1955 to 1960. He has remained connected to his educational institution to this day and is now making a generous donation to the university foundation. The new "Doris und Dr.-Ing. Hans-Joachim Jagnow-Stiftungsfonds" will be administered by the "Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg" foundation and will be used primarily for innovative research approaches in energy process engineering.  Read more...

"40 years of the Kustodie - preserving, researching and communicating knowledge": special exhibition shows highlights and unknowns

Since 1985, the Custody of the TU Bergakademie Freiberg has been preserving, documenting and researching twelve collections with around 15,000 objects from the university's 260-year history. With an exhibition at Freudenstein Castle, the Custody shows why these tasks are an essential part of a modern university. "Welcome to TUBAF": Ceremonial start of studies for around 1,500 first-year students

The TU Bergakademie Freiberg welcomed its new students on 21 October 2025 with a matriculation ceremony in the Alte Mensa in Freiberg city centre. For the first time, the new TUBAF Rector, Professor Jutta Emes, performed the ceremonial matriculation of the students. Around 1,500 students have enrolled for the 2025/26 winter semester so far.
