Starting in April, Dr. Robert Czudaj and Dr. Gari Walkowitz strengthen the Faculty of Business and Economics with two new professorships.
Robert Czudaj takes over the professorship for general economics, in particular (monetary) macroeconomics at TU Bergakademie Freiberg. Until February, the economist worked as a substitute professor for statistics and econometrics (W3) at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and, in parallel, as a junior professor for empirical economic research at the TU Chemnitz. Prior to that, he was an academic councilor at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
His research covers the topics of macroeconomics, econometrics and financial markets. He would like to further deepen these in Freiberg with his own professorship: "Both the Corona pandemic and Russia's attack on Ukraine have shown how shocks can affect economic activity. I want to continue working to better understand macroeconomic impact mechanisms. In this regard, I am also interested in the changing role of energy resources."
Supporting ethical practices in companies and markets
Also newly appointed is Dr. Gari Walkowitz as professor of business ethics. He previously worked in the junior research group "Ethics of Digitalization" at THI Ingolstadt and at the "Institute for Ethics in Artificial Intelligence" at TU Munich, and was also able to gain initial experience as a professor as a substitute professor of management at Humboldt University Berlin.
At TU Freiberg, Dr. Walkowitz will research the design and effectiveness of institutions for promoting ethical behavior in companies and markets. To this end, he would like to better understand the interactive influence of organizational framework conditions (such as incentive systems), situational factors (such as information conditions), and personality dispositions (such as personal values) on individual and collective decision-making behavior when dealing with valuable resources.
For his research, Dr. Walkowitz also seeks contact with other scientists at the university: "I am especially looking forward to discussing and collaborating with interested students and colleagues from a wide range of disciplines on applied ethical issues from your specific context of action."
